Food for Thought 3: NEET 2017 – State Ranks

Updated on 25th July:  Telangana and Maharashtra have published revised state merit lists. So updated the tables below for these 2 states.

***************************************************************

Dear Aspirants of NEET 2018; 2019 and beyond,

The results of NEET 2017 were released by CBSE on June 23rd. Subsequent to that, various states have started releasing their State Merit Lists. Counseling for Medical College Admissions has begun in almost all the states. Counseling is underway for the 15% All India Quota seats as well.

For all of you who are preparing for NEET 2018, 2019, one data point which would be of interest is the Marks vs State Rank from NEET 2017 results.

I have collated data from 12 different states now and summarized the Marks vs AIR vs State Rank in the tables given below. As you can see there is wide difference between states. In some states like Kerala, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh it has been very competitive and in some states like Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal it has been a lot easier.

It is also interesting to see the Head to Head fight between Kerala and Rajasthan. Kerala had the upper hand until 950 rank or so and thereafter Rajasthan has taken over. I am sure the Kota Coaching Industry would have realised by now that Kerala is a Golden business opportunity for them!

Referring to the data below, one can create a Target (marks to be scored) for themselves. Based on that target, the study strategy and planning has to be re-aligned.

{Legend for State Names:  RJ = Rajasthan;  WB  =  West Bengal;  UP  =  Uttar Pradesh;  DL  =  Delhi;      MH = Maharashtra; AP = Andhra Pradesh;  KA = Karnataka;  HP = Himachal Pradesh;  GJ  =  Gujarat}

NEET 2017 - Kerala State Rank - 1         NEET 2017 - Rajasthan State Rank

NEET 2017 - WB State Rank   NEET 2017 - UP State Rank     NEET 2017 - Delhi State Rank    NEET 2017 - Maha State Rank   NEET 2017 - Telangana State Rank     NEET 2017 - AP State Rank      NEET 2017 - Karnataka State Rank     NEET 2017 - HP State Rank

NEET 2017 - Punjab State Rank  NEET 2017 - Gujarat State Rank

Best Wishes

  1. Great post. These data points are wonderfully captured & goes on to substantiate your earlier post on NEET 2017 (Post 2: NEET 2017 Results)
    Students from Kerala, AP, Telangana have done very well in NEET 2017. Even UP & Delhi students have been very competitive with good NEET scores.
