NEET 2024 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

Dear Aspirants of NEET 2025, NEET 2026

NEET 2024 Examination was completed on 5th May 2024.

The official question papers and answer keys are yet to be released. However, most of the coaching institutes have already released the question papers and their version of the answer keys.

The paper is moderately difficult than the 2023 paper. However, with a huge increase in the number of students who have appeared for the exam this year as compared to all the previous years, the marks vs rank may have some surprises. We still may have 720/720 as the topper! 10,000 Rank at 650 Marks, and so on! Many coaching institutes have already started declaring that they have more than 2 or 3 students who may score 720/720!!

Year after Year (for Seven consecutive years now 2017 to 2023), I came out with my blog posts to showcase how important the NCERT Biology textbooks are, by mapping the NEET Question papers Biology Section questions to NCERT Biology textbooks.

The mapping exercises that I had done for the 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 Biology Section of the Question Paper, can be accessed from the following posts.

NEET 2021 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

******************************************************

Now coming to the 2024 Question paper mapping. As always, I went to Allen Institutes portal to pick up the Biology paper of this years NEET exam. To my surprise, Allen has done a tremendous job of Mapping all the 90 Questions to the NCERT Books, Class and Page Number!!

Please check the Biology paper (Code – Q6) on the Allen Portal. NEET 2024 Biology Paper with Solutions

So Dear Aspirants please ensure that the NCERT Biology text books of classes XI and XII and Exemplar books are your true companion in your pursuit of NEET Examination Success!

If all 90 questions can be answered by just reading the NCERT books, one should start thinking as to why Lakhs of Rupees need to be spent on Coaching Classes, Extra Tuitions, Ed-Tech Platforms, Apps, etc. etc.!!

Best Wishes to all of you

CBSE Class XII – 2024 Board Exams: Mathematics – Dreaming of a Centum!

Please Do!

That is what a serious Maths student should do, which I believe each one of you are.

In the past few years, it has become a norm to score Full Marks even in Competitive Exams like NEET (720/720); JEE MAIN (300/300); CUET.

A sound and complete preparation would put each one of you in good stead for any type of paper and achieving this Dream.

The key aspect of a sound and complete preparation is, completing every problem from NCERT text book (including proofs, solved examples and miscellaneous exercises!!), completing Exemplar Maths book, and completing one of the following two books, either R.D. Sharma or R.S. Aggarwal, thoroughly. Well you can skip the problems from these books which you have already completed from the NCERT books.

Then understand the question paper design properly.

CBSE had released the sample question papers for all subjects for the 2024 Board Examinations. The same can be accessed from this link –> Class XII Sample Question Paper & Marking Scheme for Exam 2023-24. Mathematics question paper can be accessed from this link –> Mathematics

The Question Paper Design for 2024 Board Exams would be as follows:

  1. This Question paper contains – five sections A, B, C, D and E. Each section is compulsory. However, there are internal choices in some questions.
  2.  Section A has 18 MCQ’s and 02 Assertion-Reason based questions of 1 mark each.
  3.  Section B has 5 Very Short Answer (VSA)-type questions of 2 marks each.
  4.  Section C has 6 Short Answer (SA)-type questions of 3 marks each.
  5.  Section D has 4 Long Answer (LA)-type questions of 5 marks each.
  6.  Section E has 3 source based/case based/passage based/integrated units of assessment of 4 marks each with sub-parts.

Based on the sample question paper that is released, one can see the weightage of each chapter, i.e. how many questions and how many marks from each chapter. The table below shows the paper design. 5 chapters (blue highlight in marks column) contribute to 41 marks on the paper and the remaining 8 chapters contribute 39 Marks!

CBSE Class XII - 2024 Maths QP Design

Past Year Papers and Marking Scheme:

  • One can also take a look at all the past year question papers, the marking schemes, model answer sheets that CBSE provides on its website every year. These can be accessed from the following links –> Past Year Question Papers and Past Year Question Papers (Old)
  • Please do spend some time in understanding the marking scheme for each question.
  • As most of you are preparing for some Engineering entrance exam or the other, you may have learnt a number of quicker and shorter ways of doing a given problem. That is good for a Multiple Choice Questions based examination and where speed is of the essence.
  • In the CBSE board examination, the detailed working of the solution with all the necessary mandatory steps is expected. Sometimes, the right answer at the end of a 5 marks problem would only be half or 1 mark. The steps carry 4 marks. So for some time, until the Maths Board exam is over, try to practice solving problems at home by writing all the steps in order.

3 Hours Exam – Time Management:

  • Time Management during the actual examination is going to be the key. You would have 15 minutes time for reading the question paper before the exam starts (10:15 am to 10:30 am).
  • This time is given for you to look at the questions and find out the flow in which you want to attempt the question paper, rather than worrying about how difficult the paper is.
  • On the face of it the paper may look difficult, but trust me, if you get into a good rhythm of solving easier questions first and gaining confidence as you progress, the paper suddenly appears to be easier.
  • Most of you might have been told by your teachers on the rules of answering the questions in the board exams. “Answer questions 1 to 37 in sequence”. However, when you look at the model answer papers provided by CBSE, you will notice that you can answer the paper either Sections A, B, C, D, E order or Sections E, D, C, B, A order. However with in each section, the sequence of questions should be in order. Most of the students that I know of, who score above 90% follow the E, D, C, B, A sequence. For doing this, they practiced in the same way at home a number of times. While doing this they also mastered the timing for each section.
  • Ideal timing for each section being Section E – 25 Min, Section D – 40 Minutes, Section C – 30 Minutes, Section B – 20 Minutes, Section A – 30 Minutes. This gives 35 minutes at the end, to solve any questions left out, and to go over the entire paper once to find out if there are any errors committed and correct them. At home, when you are doing mock tests (even tough ones), try to solve the paper in 2 hours 15 Min. That gives you 45 minutes at the end, for reviewing the paper.

Mock Tests @ Home:

Please do Enjoy doing Maths. Keep a 1 hour slot on a daily basis only to practice problems, in addition to whatever is your Weekly Maths study plan.

All the Very Best and go get your Centum!!

NEET 2023 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

Dear Aspirants of NEET 2024, NEET 2025

NEET 2023 Examination was completed on 7th May 2023.

The official question papers and answer keys are yet to be released. However, most of the coaching institutes have already released the question papers and their version of the answer keys.

The paper is on the difficult side as compared to last 2 years. However, for the bright and smart students the paper would be on the easier side! Last year we did not have a 720/720. The same may happen this year too. However, the ranks at the 700 Marks, 650 Marks and 600 Marks would more or less remain the same.

When students start preparing for the NEET Examination after their Class X , Year after Year, there is a major perception that gets created by the coaching institutes that NCERT books would not be important! {I started noticing that the leading coaching institutes are slowly changing their stance towards the NCERT books. Better late than never!}

Year after Year (Seventh consecutive year now), I come out with my blog posts to showcase how important the NCERT Biology textbooks are, by mapping the NEET Question papers Biology Section questions to NCERT Biology textbooks. For all those who are preparing for the NEET 2024, 2025 examination and beyond, I have come back with the Biology question paper mapping to the NCERT Biology textbooks.

Before going to the 2023 question paper mapping, let me point out to all of you about the mapping exercise that I had done for the 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 Biology Section of the Question Paper, which can be accessed from the following posts.

******************************************************

NEET 2022 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

NEET 2021 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

******************************************************

Now coming back to the 2023 Question paper mapping.  I have taken the Code F6 question paper to do the mapping exercise. {Credit and Thanks to Allen Career Institute for this question paper} The Question Paper can be accessed from the following link:

NEET-UG-2023-Biology-paper-with-answers

Unlike last few years, This year 100 out of the 100 questions of the Biology section are traced and found in the NCERT textbooks. 90 questions need to be answered out of 100. So the 360/360 scores in Biology are going to increase.

The mapping of the questions to the NCERT textbooks is shown in the tables below. (Not being a Biology student, E & OE)

NEET 2023 - Code F6 - Biology 1 of 2

NEET 2023 - Code F6 - Biology 2 of 2

So Dear Aspirants please ensure that the NCERT Biology text books of classes XI and XII and Exemplar books are your true companion in your pursuit of NEET Examination Success!

If all 90 questions can be answered by just reading the NCERT books, one should start thinking as to why Lakhs of Rupees need to be spent on Coaching Classes, Extra Tuitions, Ed-Tech Platforms, Apps, etc. etc.!!

Best Wishes to all of you

Books for NEET UG Medical Entrance Exam in India

I am planning to prepare for the NEET 2023, 2024 Examination.

Which Books Should I Study for NEET Examination?

Dear Students and Parents;

This is probably the very first question that crosses the mind when one decides to start preparing for these exams.

Thereafter, by doing a google search; talking with teachers; with coaching institutes; with friends; with cousins, etc. one draws up a comprehensive list of books required for each subject; each topic; each sub-topic; and soon there will be a list of 15 to 20 books for each subject.

Now the dilemma on which books should I buy? We may buy a few to start with. Soon fear creeps in, that we do not have some books which were shortlisted and probably some friends are studying them. So we start buying them as well. Soon one may need a complete bookshelf (or more) to store these books.

Over the last 12 years, having guided a number of students for these exams, and based on the analysis of the question papers of these exams from the past years, I have created a short list of books for each subject. I have also, arranged the same in levels as shown in the Picture below.

Books for NEET - AIIMS

If a student can meticulously and thoroughly study these books, level after level, for each topic, he or she can achieve success in all the exams. OK, what is the definition of this success? My definition of the same, provided the student is very sincerely doing these, is as follows:

  • In Classes IX and X, one would have read the books mentioned in Level 0. If yes, then these still have to be used for reference. If No, one has to start reading these books along with Level 1 books, by synchronizing the topics.
  • CBSE Class XII or State Board Class XII Exams – Thorough with Level 1 books (3 to 4 rounds of reading and solving all exercises of textbooks and exercises from Exemplar Books!) + 5 to 7 mock tests for each subject, fetches 90%+ marks!
  • NEET – Thorough with Level 0, 1 books + Exercises of Level 3 Books + 15 mock tests of full syllabus using past year papers, fetches 540+ score on 720! And for a 600+ score one needs to read the level 1 and level 3 books and do the exercises of these books atleast three times!! Added to this, if one can include the level 2 books into the study plan and complete all exercises pertaining to the NEET syllabus,  one can aspire to cross the coveted 640 Marks.

For the convenience of all of you, I have arranged the books along with the Amazon Links (Click on the book link) from where you can possibly buy these, in the table below.

NEET 2022 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

Dear Aspirants of NEET 2023, NEET 2024

NEET 2022 Examination was completed on 17th July 2022, almost 2 months ahead than 2021 exam. Unlike the 2021 batch who started their first year MBBS classes almost 1 year behind schedule, hopefully the 2022 batch will start their classes soon.

The official question papers and answer keys are yet to be released. However, most of the coaching institutes have already released the question papers and their version of the answer keys.

Kudos to all these students of 2020 – 22 batch, who actually started their preparations when the lockdown and the pandemic also started. When the results will come out we will come to see how the next generations in this country are slowly transforming themselves. Adapting to all forms of learning, being resilient, coping with so much of ambiguity and coming out with flying colors!!

One may feel that the paper is tougher than previous 2 years paper. If one keeps the choice offered in section B also in perspective, then the paper looks manageable. The surprise this year was the easier Physics section as compared to all the previous years. Chemistry section is going to decide the ranks this year.

Yet Again for third year in a row, we may have the 720/720 marks scored. Too early to comment on cutoffs.

When students start preparing for the NEET Examination after their Class X , Year after Year, there is a major perception that gets created by the coaching institutes that NCERT books would not be important! {I started noticing that the leading coaching institutes are slowly changing their stance towards the NCERT books. Better late than never!}

Year after Year (Sixth consecutive year now), I come out with my blog posts to showcase how important the NCERT textbooks are, by mapping the NEET Question papers Biology Section questions to NCERT textbooks. For all those who are preparing for the NEET 2023, 2024 examination and beyond, I have come back with the Biology question paper mapping to the NCERT textbooks.

Before going to the 2022 question paper mapping, let me point out to all of you about the mapping exercise that I had done for the 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 Biology Section of the Question Paper, which can be accessed from the following post.

******************************************************

NEET 2021 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

******************************************************

Now coming back to the 2022 Question paper mapping.  I have taken the Code T2 question paper to do the mapping exercise. {Credit and Thanks to Allen Career Institute for this question paper} The Question Paper can be accessed from the following link:

NEET-UG-2022-Biology-Paper-with-Answers

96 of the 100 questions of the Biology section are traced and found in the NCERT textbooks. For 4 questions, one need some advanced reference books. However, with 10 choice questions available, any student would have easily answered the 90 of the 100 questions which are from NCERT.

I am a little bit puzzled/surprised at the question paper this year also, just like the previous years. While there are some 700 odd pages in the Class XI and XII Biology text books, multiple times in this years paper too there are atleast 2 questions coming from the same page, same para. There could have been a much better spread of questions across the chapters and the content in the textbooks.

The mapping of the questions to the NCERT textbooks is shown in the tables below. (Not being a Biology student, E & OE) {Question Numbers 143, 144, 189, 191 not directly traceable to NCERT textbooks, though some basic concepts can be traced}

NEET 2022 - Code T2 - Biology 1 of 2

NEET 2022 - Code T2 - Biology 2 of 2

So Dear Aspirants please ensure that the NCERT Biology text books of classes XI and XII and Exemplar books are your true companion in your pursuit of NEET Examination Success!

If all 90 questions can be answered by just reading the NCERT books, one should start thinking as to why Lakhs of Rupees need to be spent on Coaching Classes, Extra Tuitions, Ed-Tech Platforms, Apps, etc. etc.!!

Best Wishes to all of you

NEET 2021 Exam – Biology Section – Mapping to NCERT Textbooks

Dear Aspirants of NEET 2022, NEET 2023

NEET 2021 Examination was completed finally on 12th September 2021. The official question papers and answer keys are yet to be released. However, most of the coaching institutes have already released the question papers and their version of the answer keys.

Last year I have written the following para in my blog post.

“In the year 2020; one need not be surprised to see the NEET 2020 topper touching the coveted 720 mark out of 720 marks for the first time in NEET’s history!! Also, at 600 marks one may see the All India Rank (AIR) of around 10,000! This will alter the cutoffs at the premier medical colleges in the country drastically.”

Well, Well, there were two students last year who actually got the full marks 720/720!! Also, at 600 marks the rank happened to be 20,000!! At 625 marks the rank was 10,000. So in 25 marks range there were 10,000 students.

Looking at the paper this year, one should not get surprised if the same pattern is repeated again like in 2020.

Kudos to all these students, who are able to manage this kind of performance inspite of the chaotic pandemic times all of us are living in.

When students start preparing for the NEET Examination after their Class X , Year after Year, there is a major perception that gets created by the coaching institutes that NCERT books would not be important! The students should read only their coaching material is the Mantra given to them.

Year after Year (Fifth consecutive year now), I come out with my blog posts to showcase how important the NCERT textbooks are, by mapping the NEET Question papers Biology Section questions to NCERT textbooks. For all those who are preparing for the NEET 2022, 2023 examination and beyond, I have come back with the Biology question paper mapping to the NCERT textbooks.

Before going to the 2021 question paper mapping, let me point out to all of you about the mapping exercise that I had done for the 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 Biology Section of the Question Paper.

For that mapping exercise I had taken the Code – Y question paper of NEET 2017 for the mapping exercise. {Credit and Thanks to SriChaitanya Institute for this question paper} The same can be accessed for your reference from the following link —> NEET – 2017 : Code Y Question Paper

******************************************************

Now coming back to the 2021 Question paper mapping.  I have taken the Code M2 question paper to do the mapping exercise. {Credit and Thanks to Allen Career Institute for this question paper} The Botany and Zoology Sections of the Question Paper can be accessed from the following links:

NEET-UG-2021-Botany-paper-with-answer

NEET-UG-2021-Zoology-paper-with-answer

All the 90 questions of the Biology section are traced and found in the NCERT textbooks. All of them, are on the easier side this year as compared to the previous years. I am a little bit puzzled/surprised at the question paper this year. While there are some 700 odd pages in the Class XI and XII Biology text books, multiple times in this years paper there are atleast 2 questions coming from the same page. There could have been a much better spread of questions across the chapters and the content in the textbooks.

A decent preparation using only NCERT textbooks, should fetch everyone a 300+ score in Biology this year.

The mapping of the questions to the NCERT textbooks is shown in the tables below. (Not being a Biology student, E & OE)

NEET 2021 - Code M2 - Biology 1 of 2

NEET 2021 - Code M2 - Biology 2 of 2

So Dear Aspirants please ensure that the NCERT Biology text books of classes XI and XII and Exemplar books are your true companion in your pursuit of NEET Examination Success! Minimum 75 questions out of 90 questions target (300 Marks in Biology Section!) can be achieved by just these books. After reading NCERT textbooks, you should definitely go for your coaching institute material and the mock tests that they offer.

Best Wishes to all of you

CBSE Class 12 – 2019 Board Exams – Physics

Dear Students of CBSE Class XII appearing for the 2019 Board Examinations,

It is just around 100 days to go for the Physics Board Examination.

Over the last few years, Physics has become a very tough nut to crack and score well in the board examinations. Primary reason being the length of the paper and not the difficulty level of the paper. During the last 5 years CBSE has maintained a consistency of giving questions upto 65 marks out of 70 marks, directly from the NCERT textbooks. It is only questions worth some 5 marks which you would not find directly in the textbooks.

As per the basic design of the question paper, there would be 5 sections and 26 questions. Even this structure is maintained. However if one takes a closer look, many questions across sections would have sub questions. If one counts all of them, there would be like 45+ questions!! At times it is difficult to complete all the questions in 180 minutes.

Coming to 2018 question paper, the total number of questions including all sub parts is 50 questions!! and hence very lengthy. 50% of them were easy 30% moderate and 20% difficult. I have mapped all the questions to the NCERT text books and am giving the mapping in this post for all your reference. Before going to 2018 paper analysis, a few alerts.

  1. As per the CBSE Sample Question Papers released for the 2019 Physics Board Exam there will be only 4 sections. However, questions will be 27. Please check the Sample Question papers on the CBSE academic website.
  2. The 2016 Physics Question paper mapping to NCERT textbooks can be found in the article whose link is CBSE Class XII Board Exams – 2017 – Physics
  3. The 2017 Physics Question paper mapping to NCERT textbooks can be found in the article whose link is CBSE Class XII – 2018 Board Exams – Physics

2018 – Physics Board Exam Question Paper Analysis:

I have taken the Physics Question Paper Code 55/1 (All India Series): SGN – Set 1 to analyse. You can get the same from the CBSE website at this location –> Question Papers for Class XII (2018)

I went about mapping all the questions to their source which is the NCERT Physics Textbooks. The output of the mapping exercise is shown in the table below for your reference. Source book: NCERT Class XII Physics Part I and Part II textbooks. Many questions are straight from the exercises at the end of each chapter, though with slight alterations to the values in the numerical problems.

So please ensure that all of you have thoroughly read your NCERT textbooks, including all the solved examples and exercise questions (multiple times).

CBSE Class XII – 2018 Board Exams – Chemistry

Dear Students of CBSE Class XII appearing for the 2018 Board Examinations,

This post is for giving you an insight into the 2017 Board Chemistry Examination and how the questions have been picked up from the NCERT text books.

I have taken the Chemistry Question Paper Code 56/1 (All India Series): GBM – Set 1 to analyse. You can get this question paper from the CBSE website at this location –> Question Paper for Class XII (Board Examination 2017- ALL INDIA SCHEME)

The  mapping exercise of the Chemistry paper questions, to their source, was definitely tricky this time. I took far longer time, to do this exercise, this year as compared to last years Chemistry paper. However, even this year, all questions were traced to NCERT Chemistry Textbooks/Exemplar Book in the end. For a few questions (especially problems or reaction mechanisms) one may not find an exact match of the words or numbers in the text books, but they are based on the concepts given in the text books.

The output of the mapping exercise is shown in the table below for your reference. Source book: NCERT Class XII Chemistry Part I and Part II textbooks, Exemplar Chemistry Book for Class XII.

Class XII - 2017 Boards - Chemistry Mapping

I have done a similar mapping exercise for the 2016 Board Exam paper as well. Please see the mapping and preparation tips in the post CBSE Class XII – 2017 Board Exams – Chemistry.

My advice to all parents and students who are in CBSE Class 12 now, would be to create your study strategy according to what I mentioned in my post “ CBSE Class XII Maths Board Exam – Dreaming of a Centum!” Needless to say, the study strategy should include covering the NCERT Textbook, NCERT Exemplar book and R D Sharma Textbook.

Wishing you All the Very Best!
